Fleche Wallone: eleventh place

Tinkoff-Saxo rider in 11th position 8 second behind the victorious Spaniard Valverde.

“Last year I finished 8th, this year I did not make top ten. I gave it my best but in the finale, my tank was left. It wasn’t bad but I always struggle with myself at this race. I prefer finishing out of top ten today rather than on Sunday in Liege, which suits me much better. I believe that everything will turn out fine and I will get a good result,” said Roman.

“The atmosphere in the peloton was quite tense and there were many crashes. Rafa Majka got tangled into one of them. He did not hit the ground but he had a technical. Valgen was the only one from our team who fell down but it was nothing serious so we escaped unscathed today, which is the most important thing with regard to Sunday´s race,” revealed Roman.

“This year´s edition featured one more climb just before the finish. “Nibali tried to attack there but I watched him closely. We all knew that it did not make any sense attacking there. There were still many riders left and the teams would manage to take up the chase.”
