"I can't be unhappy. Even though I was hoping for a better outcome the race didn't suit me very much. It's not possible for me to fight for the podium in every race. As for my shape, I felt better than at the Paris-Nice but I made some mistakes and sometimes I was out of luck a bit," said Roman who is flying from Barcelona to Tenerife tomorrow to do some practice together with another four riders from Liquigas. "We'll be there for fourteen days. Except for practising, we'll have enough time to rest and recharge batteries for the classics where I'd like to shine. I hope to show my qualities at least in one of them," Roman admitted.
In today’s stage Liquigas was supporting the young sprinter Guarnieri. "We delivered a good lead-out for him but with one kilometer remaining Vajtkus from Radioshack crashed ahead of us. We had to go around him so we lost some seconds. Guernieri stopped pedaling and finished in the sixteenth position. We couldn't exactly praise him for that. When he was a rider under 23 he was used to winning but now he needs to learn to sprint, say, for the sixth place. The team worked hard for him and he called it a day way too soon," the Liquigas leader added.
On the other hand, Roman was very happy with the news of his good friend and teammate Ivan Santaromita who won the stage race Coppi e Bartali. "It's his first big victory and I wished him that. He usually does the dirty work for the team but now he was given a chance and he excelled. It'll certainly help him in the future."
