I still believe in reaching the top ten

Wed July 21, 2010, 17:32

Roman spent a quiet rest day today in Pau except for being woken up by the doping commissioners who made sure that the riders would not sleep in. He took about a 75 minute ride and feels relaxed before tomorrow’s stage with the finish on Tourmalet. He wishes to move up to the top ten.

How are you feeling?
I would like to think that I usually feel much better after the second rest day, but every year is different, so we will see. I am not nervous, it is only a sport. Either you make it or not.

Do you think that there will be attacks straight after the start?
I have no idea. It will depend on what the weather will be like. Today it has gotten cold, it is only 19 degrees and it was drizzling earlier. I expect that Astana will make everything possible to bring the peloton all together to the foot of Tourmalet and Contador may then take the stage win.

Do you think that you still stand a chance to move up to top ten?
It is hard to say. Winning a stage is a very inviting idea but tomorrow it will be really complicated. After all, anyone can be dropped from top ten. I won’t say that I can move up to eighth or seventh place as it is impossible to plan it in advance. I can also drop to thirteenth or twentieth place. It depends on how good legs I will have and how my rivals will ride. I think that the competition here is really big and it really isn’t simple to move up to top ten.

You may show something similar like you did last year on Mt. Ventoux…
That would be awesome but every year is different. I have been feeling really great the last two days and I am certainly not afraid of the stage. I look forward to it.
