In the leading group

Mon March 8, 2010, 18:16

Roman fared very well in the first stage of the Paris Nice which was plagued by strong wind. He finished in the tenth position in the leading group which hit the finish line with the advantage of 17 seconds.

"Although the weather in the opening stage was better than in the last two years, the wind was pretty heavy. The peloton got split into smaller groups and I can only thank my teammates for a job well done. We have really strong riders for flat stretches with the good ability to give me support. I kept in the front and managed to gain some seconds, so I'm content. Some of the favorites stayed in the back, on top of that Contador got tangled up in a crash so we will see. We have two flat stages coming up that we have to survive and then the Thursday's stage features a top mountain finish," Roman said.
Results of the 1st stage (Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines - Contres, 203 km): 1st Henderson (NZl/Sky) 4:22:17, 2nd Bole (Slo/Lampre), 3rd Galland (Fra/Saur), 4th Kolobnev (Rus/Katusha), 5th Valverde (Spa/Caisse d’Epargne), ... 10th Roman Kreuziger (Cze/Liquigas-Doimo), all the same time.
Overall: 1st Boom (Ned/Rabobank) 4:33:11, 2nd Voigt (Ger/Saxo Bank) +5, 3rd Millar (GBr/Garmin) +13, 4th L. Sanchez (Spa/Caisse d’Epargne) +14, 5th Roman Kreuziger +15.
