One second away from the podium…

Sun March 14, 2010, 16:48

After the last stage of the Paris-Nice Roman Kreuziger clinched the fourth position overall. He conceded a podium spot to Luis Leon Sanchez. Trailing Sanchez by mere one second Roman kept the white jersey for the best young rider.

"There was an intermediate sprint at the 18km mark in which Sanchez sprinted second so he was awarded two seconds. Unfortunately, in a race like this you have to be able to sprint because the climbs are not decisive. I feel bad about not keeping the podium spot but there is nothing I can do about it. Still, this is my best result in this race, plus I have won the white jersey. Also, it is worth mentioning that the competition of riders was absolutely outstanding. Only a few top riders who will participate in the Tour did not show up. I am in good shape and I felt better with each day passed. I want to use it to my advantage as I am already thinking about my upcoming races," Roman said.
A novelty in his schedule is the classic race Milan-San Remo that starts on Saturday.
"Originally, it wasn't an item in my plan but we agreed that I should give it a go. I'll be working for Bennati or I might try to get in a breakaway. After that I'll race at the Tour of Catalan," Roman outlined his next program.
7th stage (119 km): 1st Moinard (Fra/Cofidis) 2:52:09, 2nd Voeckler (Fra/Bouygues Telecom) , 3rd Valverde (Spa/Caisse d’Epargne), 4th Roche (Ira/AG2R), 5th Taaramae (Est/Cofidis), 6th Rodriguez (Spa/Katusha), ... 14th Roman Kreuziger (Cze/Liquigas-Doimo) all +3.
General classification: 1st Contador (Spa/Astana) 28:35:35, 2nd Valverde +11, 3rd L. Sanchez (Spa/Caisse d’Epargne) +25, 4th Roman Kreuziger +26, 5th S. Sanchez (Spa/Euskaltel) +30, 6th Voigt (Ger/Saxo Bank) +35, 7th Rodriguez +37, 8th Taaramae 1:07.
