Readying for the classics

Two weeks on Tenerife have come to their end. I flew back to Italy early Tuesday morning instead of Monday night because the flight was delayed.

So , through the whole day I just slept and rested. Besides that, I had an appointment with an expert in dietology who I have recently started to consult.
Today I hit the road for four and half hours, riding the last hour of it behind a motorbike to get into the race rhythm because this is what I am lacking now. This coming weekend it will have been three weeks since I last raced.
My schedule is getting pretty packed now. On Friday evening I am taking off for the classics – Amstel on Sunday, then La Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday and the next Sunday Liège - Bastogne – Liège takes place. The Tour of Romandie follows immediately after that.
I am feeling good, the tests from the training camp turned out not to be bad at all. I would like to be seen at front positions in one of the events but there is no point in planning a good result in such tough races. There are many contenders for the victory and except for having good form you have to be also lucky to make the podium.
My last year’s second place in San Sebastian showed, though, that I can perform well in a one-day race. Plus, these three races are suitable even for climbers so I do stand a chance for a good result. I have ridden Amstel and La Flèche Wallonne three times, while Liège only once last year but I think that just this race could suit me best. It is the toughest one with plenty of climbs. Let’s see what’s going to happen there…
