Roman before Giro: I believe that Albert will fight for the victory

Roman is going to participate in his twelfth Grand Tour. He is set to line-up at the start of the 98th edition of the Giro d´Italia. He believes that his team Tinkoff Saxo will help Alberto Contador to achieve his coveted overall victory.

“Alberto´s success is our priority. He is going to face a tough challenge of riding both the Giro and Tour but he is able to gear up for the peak races. Porte might be the biggest favourite on paper because he has won more races but Alberto is the rider for the Grand Tours and the rest of us will try to do our best to help him,” said Roman.

He is really looking forward to working with Contador. “When I rode with Alberto our collaboration was always great. And I am convinced that things will be running smoothly again. We have brought along a strong team. Me, Baso and Rogers are supposed to help Alberto in the mountainous stages and the other guys will work on the flat stages and in the hilly terrain,” revealed Roman.

He does not want to make any predictions as to whether he will focus on the GC or not. “We have not spoken about it with the team yet. We will take it day by day and see how it unfolds. I am supposed to be the rider who will stay with Alberto until the very last moments in the mountain stages. It can happen that while supporting Alberto I might hold on to a good position in the GC or I may try my luck in one of the stages. But it is hard to make any plans ahead, many things have to be taken into account.”

“Our sports director Bruno Cenghialta claims that it will be one of the toughest Giro in the last 30 years. The positive thing is that there will not be such long transfers. He said that the hotel are usually 1-hour drive far away from the finish line, which was not the case in the previous editions.

The final Tinkoff-Saxo line-up for the 2015 Giro: Alberto Contador, Roman Kreuziger, Michael Rogers, Ivan Basso, Sergio Paulinho, Manuele Boaro, Matteo Tosatto, Christopher Juul-Jensen, Ivan Rovnyj.
