The Liquigas-Doimo rider Roman Kreuziger proved to be in an excellent shape at the beginning of the season when he took the victory at the Giro di Sardegna stage race.

"I am certainly happy with the victory and it will surely boost my morale for other races. It is obvious that I put in a lot of hard work during the winter time and that there is nothing for me to be afraid of at the start of the season. I value the victory because it was an average difficulty race with hardly any flat stretches. Even when sheltered you still had to pedal hard. I also have to thank my team as I wouldn’t have succeeded without their support. The guys were pulling excellently during the last stage and eventually, we did it. Luckily, it was one of the most uneventful stages. One rider broke away after sixty kilometers but we chased him down and sprinted for the victory," revealed Roman who is set to race the next day at a one-day event on Sardinia. 
Results – 5th stage (Sant Antioco - Cagliari 140.6 km): 1st Loddo (Ita), 3:24:51, 2nd Petacchi (Ita), 3rd Gatto (Ita), 4th Galimzjanov (Rus), 5. Metlusenko (Ukr), 6. Rossi (Ita), ... 37. Roman Kreuziger (Cze), all the same time.  
Overall classification: 1st Roman Kreuziger (Cze) 22:08:06, 2nd Horner (USA) +4, 3rd Voekler (Fra) +6, 4th Brajkovic (Slo), 5th Caruso (Ita), 6th Niemiec (Pol) all +10.
