Too bad I didn’t win on Tourmalet

Are you miserable that it didn’t work out? That is the way it goes in sport, there is nothing I can do. When Chavanel and Hoogerland got away on the first climb I had a feeling that I could close the gap, so I followed them. Then I stayed there only with Chavanel. We set a high pace and pushed really hard and my only regret is that I didn’t catch the leading group.Did you suffer a lot on the way to Tourmalet?one point I was losing only 15 second on them but then they sped up. I was really close, I just needed to get there, take a short break because riding on my own was really exhausting. I was on my limit 3km before the summit. I suffered from a back pain a lot and then I cracked for a while. Too bad I didn’t catch them but that is the way it is. It would have been nice to win on Tourmalet and gain more points for the polka dot jersey classification. What crossed your mind when the other riders were getting close to you?I found out on the downhill. My team car told me to take a short break and then see what would happen. But I knew that the others wouldn’t slow down and would fight for the positions in the GC. This is why, I eased the pace on the final climb. I didn’t have the legs to keep up, otherwise I would have burnt myself out.How is your wrist?I made sure that I could move my hand around without difficulty and I think that my legs are fine. I only suffered from a back pain as I was pushing hard all day long but hopefully our masseur will fix it.Are you thinking of the polka dot jersey? Not at the moment, I have only a few points. What is your game plan for the upcoming days?I proved myself that I´m able to figure something out. If I feel all right I will give it another try in the next days.
