Uneventful stage came in handy

Wed July 7, 2010, 19:19

As expected, the flat fourth stage of the Tour was finished in a bunch sprint. No changes have occurred in the general classification. Roman finished in 33rd position tallying the same time as the winner Petacchi.

"Everybody was tired, the three hard stages over 200 kilometers had cost us a lot of energy so we used the today’s stage to sort of recharge batteries," admitted the Liquigas rider. "A group of several riders broke away right after the start, we maintained the gap within 2 minutes but we had to speed up at the end to close it. On top of that the finish was really dangerous because of the roundabouts so one had to be careful. Our team tried to be at the front but it was the teams with sprinters who were pulling," Romad said.

4th stage (153.5): 1st Petacchi (Ita/Lampre) 3:34:55, 2nd Dean (Aus/Garmin), 3rd Boasson Hagen (Nor/Sky), 4th McEwen (Aus/Katusha), 5th Hunter (JAR/Garmin), 6th Turgot (Fra/Bouygues Telecom), ... 33rd Roman Kreuziger (CZE/Liquigas).
Overall: 1st Cancellara (Swi/Saxo Bank) 18:28:55, 2nd Thomas (GBr/Sky) +23, 3rd Evans (Aus/BMC) +39, 4th Hesjedal (Can/Garmin) +46, 5th Chavanel (Fra/Quick Step) +1:01, 6th A. Schleck +1:09, ... 16th Roman Kreuziger +2:24.
