We pulled it off quite nicely in Oman

This afternoon Roman came back from the Oman Tour where he finished 11th after his first start of the season. He was satisfied with his performance.

“My shape is more or less at the level where I wanted to be at his point of time. I know what to improve to increase my condition but all in all, it was a successful comparison,” said Roman.

His job was to help Majka, who was the team leader, in the most difficult moments, especially in the queen stage atop Green Moutain. Majka finished 4th and he took the same position in the overall classification.

“I stayed with Rafa until the last 2 kilometres to go. I knew the climb from the previous edition and I was aware of the danger that your tank may get empty in the last kilometre. I distributed my strength sensibly and in the end, I kept overcoming riders who were suffering in the last part of that climb.”

He was satisfied with the way the team was working. “Someone might say that Peter Sagan won at least one stage in the previous editions but you have to look at the fact that he crashed at the Tour of Qatar, then he got sick and it is really tough to recover your strength in this scorching heat. His time will come yet. It was a hard race and many people were in great shape but as I keep saying, the important part of the season will come after the Paris-Nice and Tirreno.”
