Wind played major role

“I hadn’t raced for six weeks and I must say that I felt all right today. The overall result could have been a bit better but the windy conditions were very different for the last thirty riders. There was a strong headwind and that is why the likes of Cancellara have lost some time today. When I compare my performance with the others I see that one of the biggest favorites, van Garderen, finished just a second ahead of me, which is not bad. He is in preparation for the Tour where he wants to make the top five and he isn’t in bad shape. Hesjedal and Velits gained some time on me but the race has only started. Many tough stages lie ahead of us and I believe to get better with each day coming,” said Roman who was pleased with the atmosphere that prevailed at the military airport where the start of the prologue took place. “It was very well organized and there were many spectators along the route. We, as a team, can be satisfied and we will see what happens in the following days.”
