Races in Canada were an ideal test before the Worlds

Roman participated in two one-day races in Canada, GP de Québec and GP de Montreal. Even though he secretly hoped for a better results, both races served as a warm-up for the upcoming World Championships in Richmond.

“It was a great preparation towards the Worlds, the circuits like these were ideal. I was in a breakaway group of 14 riders two laps to go but I had cramps and we were caught at the end, anyway. The race suited more to fast riders but at the end of the day, it was Urán who took everybody by surprise,” said Roman.

He finished in the 26th position at the Sunday´s race GP Montreal as the best Tinkoff-Saxo rider. “The weather wasn’t on our side, it was raining hard. I really liked the course but many teams had to change tactics because of the bad weather. We rode full gas the first nine laps, and as a result, many riders called it quits. Orica then controlled the race and the pace picked up toward the end of the race when a group of 5 riders went away and they closely stayed up front until the finish. I did not have the legs to join them but all in all, I felt better in the bad weather,” described Roman.

Roman is quite satisfied with his condition ahead of the World Championships in Richmond.” I had worked hard to get more power into my legs before I went to Canada. The preparations went as planned and both races in Canada helped me a lot,” admitted Roman.
