Roman to skin the Route du Sud stage race

Roman will not line up at the French stage race Route du Sud that starts on Thursday. Instead, he is staying at the altitude training camp in Italy.

He is preparing on the Passo Eira at the altitude of 2208m. “I have been here for 12 days with my family. Matteo Tosatto keeps me company here, Alberto Contador and Jesus Hernanderz were also here but they went racing. Even though the weather has not been nice and it rained often, we put in the volume that was needed,” said Roman.

He will be staying there until Friday. “Then I will have a short training stint at the Garda Lake. My coach will come to see me, I need to do some pacing behind the motorbike to get into race-mode,” said Roman.

After Sunday he is travelling home and his next participation will be at the national championships that takes place in Zilina. As far as his race program is concerned, he is not sure about making his appearance at the Tour de France.

“Fourteen riders are on the list. The upcoming races and experience will play a role. Alberto will definitely have a say in this matter but the final line-up will be selected by the sports manager Steven De Jongh. It is important that the squad for the Tour de France is well-balanced. We will see how it goes, we will find out the final selection on Friday before the nationals,” revealed Roman.
