Third place!!!

“A podium spot is always a respectable result. I´m glad that it came out right. We showed an excellent team effort. Nico Roche helped me out a lot at the end. We were both in the leading group and took turns pulling,” Roman said. He saved his energy for the Jaizkibel climb where he attacked from the leading group with around 40km to go. “I just gave it a shot. My intention was to rip the front group to pieces and keep on riding with as few riders as possible. But it was still a long way from the finish so I waited, otherwise I would have wasted way too much strength,” Roman explained. “When Gallopin went on the attack me and Valverde just marked each other and we let him go. We underestimated him a bit but he pulled off a great ride and deserved to win. Then I just tried with Nico to snatch a podium spot and it worked out well. We knew that Valverde was the fastest man from that group. In the end, I just lost by the skin of my teeth but even so I´m satisfied knowing that I did a good race after the Tour. At the beginning of the race I was suffering a bit but then I found my rhythm,” Roman said.
