I missed out on the finale

Today Roman lost 14 seconds on the victorious Sagan in the 3rd stage of the Tirreno-Adricatico stage race. In the overall standings he sits in the 18th position 44 seconds down on the Polish rider Kwiatkowski.

“It was a stage with laps towards the end. As we went through the finish four times we knew what to expect from the last climb but, even so, the things got a little bit chaotic at the end of the stage. I didn’t feel bad on the last climb but I got boxed in and started the climb from the back. The finish was quite technical and we failed to prepare as good a position as yesterday,” Roman revealed.

The best Tinkoff-Saxo rider was Bennati who finished sixth, Contador lost six seconds. “Losing those six seconds could prove costly for us because Kwiatkowski was second today so after his triumph in the team time trial he extended his lead. But it doesn’t mean that he has won the Tirreno. The true race begins tomorrow,” added Roman.
