Roman is set to race in the Basque Tour for the fourth time in his career. He is going to ride alongside Alberto Contador for the first time in this season.
“It is a good thing to meet him at one of the stage races before the Tour. Alberto knows from the last year that he can trust me. We don’t even have to spend so much time racing because we get along really well.”
He reckons that Contador will be the only leader. “I can say that our tactics is to fully support Alberto. There is going to be a strong competition and we want to try to win the Basque Tour overall. He is on great shape and we all have to help him as much as possible.”
Roman himself feels relaxed and in good condition as well.” After the Milan-San Remo I took a couple of days off. I did a block of training with my coach in Tuscany where we focused on intensity. I did everything what I was supposed to do.”
Roman´s last race before the Basque Tour was the Tirreno-Adriatico where he finished tenth. “Unfortunately, they cancelled the most difficult stage, which was the right decision considering the weather and possible risks.”
