Second place in the TTT!

Roman and his teammates showed an excellent performance in the opening stage of this year’s Giro with superb ride in the team time trial. They lost only seven seconds to the victorious squad Orica GreenEDGE and Roman sits in 8^th place overall.

“We did a really good time trial, especially the first half was great. We lost some time in the other half but all in all, we can be really satisfied. We knew that this team could do really well but honestly, I was not expecting that we could fight for the victory. I would have considered a success even if we had made top 5,” said Roman.

He himself was feeling really great. “I hadn’t raced for a couple of days but after I did some pacing behind a motorbike I felt really ready for the race. We showed a well-balanced performance, which was crucial,” he added.

Simon Gerrans was the rider who donned into the maglia rosa. “And they deserve credit. The Orica has really good time trial specialists on the team and that is probably the reason why they won today. It is good to see Simon Gerrans wearing the pink jersey. He´s had a lot of bad luck in the season but he managed to get back and I think that he will keep the jersey for several days.”
