A closed level crossing slowed us down

“We knew that this stage would suit Guarnieri. The final meters were dangerous and the last 300m were outright treacherous. Guarnieri was riding in a good position and scored quite a good result in the sprint although we would have preferred to have pulled off a victory,” Roman said.Almost the entire day was marked with rain showers and the peloton was forced to chase back the leading trio. “At one moment, they had built up a gap of eleven and half minutes. When we reduced their advantage to 5:30, the level crossing closed and we had to wait for the train to pass. As a result, the time gap increased again and, in addition, it happened only with some 60km to go, so I lost hope that we would catch them. In the end, one of them got dropped and we didn’t bring the duo back until 800m remaining,” Roman revealed.3rd stage (Martigny-Aarberg, 194.7 km): 1. P. Sagan (Svk/Liquigas) 4:35:32, 2. Cooke (Aus/GreenEdge), 3. Swift (GBr/Sky), 4. Guarnieri (Ita/Astana), 5. Davis (Aus/GreenEdge), 6. Hutarovic (Bel/FDJ), … 42. Roman Kreuziger (Cze/Astana)  +3.Overall standings: 1. Costa (Por/Movistar) 11:06:57, 2. F. Schleck (Lux/RadioShack-Nissan) +4, 3. Roman Kreuziger +15, 4. Pinot (Fra/FDJ) +19, 5. Roche (Irl/AG2R), 6. Löfkvist (Swe/Sky) +21.
