He is a fast rider as he has extensive track experience but he isn´t a pure sprinter,” Roman said. Bad luck followed  the German rider Tony Martin who broke away from the start and wasn´t caught until the very last meters from the finish. “He went away right from the get-go and nobody wanted to ride with him. He can´t have thought of making it to the finish, I think he went into the break to build up for the Worlds time trial. But he pulled off a great ride. The sprinter´s teams obviously miscalculated and it was sheer luck that Martin was brought back. He won´t probably make a big deal out of it but it is always very unpleasant to be caught so close to the finish line. Besides, the solo effort must have cost him a lot of energy. If he had been joined by a rider we wouldn´t have caught them.”
