It wasn’t our intention to ride away

“When the crash happened on the final climb I stayed in the front group only with Alberto. I believe that Nico Roche and Michael Rogers would have arrived in the leading group, too. I am happy that we came home in one piece because we knew that the stage might be a bit tricky. We had no intentions of riding away on the final downhill but we knew that there were some slit-ups and that we could make use of them,” Roman said.“All in all, the stage proved to be quite tough. When the first group broke away, our guys took up the chase and brought them back. Then a duo went away and no team was interested in pulling on the front. It looked as if we had earned some respect and it was up to us to chase them back again. Our guys did an admirable job and they deserve special thanks. It wasn’t an easy task to be pushing hard all day long but as a team they showed a great power today,” Roman described. “Tomorrow´s stage might end in a bunch sprint so I reckon that the GreenEdge might take control of the race. Besides, Gerrans is now the race leader and the stage should play into their hands.”
