No Giro recon due to snowfall

“I wanted to do the recon on Tuesday and Wednesday but it didn’t work out because of the bad weather. There was a snowfall in the Dolomites and the roads were closed so we couldn’t go up there. One and a half meters of snow fell on top of the Passo dello Stelvio where the hardest penultimate stage ends,” Roman revealed. “There is nothing I can do. I was planning on checking out the course of three Giro stages but I had to put it off. Hopefully, I will have some time left after the Tour of Romandy,” he added.Nonetheless, the Astana leader did manage to test ride one stage. It was the queen stage with the finish on Punta Veleno where he will also ride during the Tour of Trentino. “The weather wasn’t that bad up there. I went there with the team sports manager Martinelli. We were able to get through and I must admit that the final ascent is really grueling. It can be compared to Zoncolan, it is extremely hard,” Roman said.Roman has been combining the home trainer with outdoor training in the past few days. “When it was chilly and rainy outside I took no risk riding outdoors.  I can´t afford to catch a cold now. I had a two-phase training on Friday when I went out for a ride on my time trial bike during one of the phases. We´ve made some adjustments on the time trial bike so we will see if it will be any good.”
