“Stages long like this shouldn’t be included in a three-week stage race. Especially in regard to what is to come in the following days,” Roman said after the stage with the finish in Montecatini Terme resort – a place where he goes for opening training camps before the season.“On a day like this you have to get up early and you don’t have time for anything, not even for a proper recovery. It was a relatively easy stage but we put in 1800m of climbing. Besides, it was cold today and it rained a lot at the beginning of the stage. The finale was tense and fast, especially the last 30km. I don’t think that anyone was able to conserve energy but the conditions are the same for everyone,” he added.
