Second place and green jersey for the best climber

“The leading jersey went to BMC, I put on the green jersey as the best rider from the second team and somebody from Colnago has the sprinter jersey; this is how they distributed them,” Roman revealed. He was fully satisfied with the second position in the competition of 17 teams. “We pulled off a really good time trial. It was very windy and we took no unnecessary risks. Other teams rode recklessly today, so some riders ended up falling. Our priority was not to hit the deck. I hadn’t done such a fast time trial for a long time. I was feeling really great but there is a big difference between riding a time trial in eight men or on your own,” admitted the Astana leader. “For starters, it is a favorable result for us but that doesn’t mean anything. The race is very tough so we will see how things will go for me in the following days,” he added. The tomorrow stage features two mountain sprints with the summit finish even though it is going to be just an overture to what will follow in the upcoming days. “The start was scheduled for a relatively early time – around 9.45am. The finish is planned for 2am because the Fleche Wallone will be broadcast on Eurosport afterwards,” Roman said.
