I wanted another stage victory

Hats off to him for the effort that he put in today. “I managed to catch the right group but the riders didn’t work together well. For this reason, we didn’t build up a big gap. Still, I felt all right and had some energy left after they chased us back. Then I was even able to keep up with the best ones. I wanted so badly to take another stage win but, unfortunately, I didn’t have this much luck,” Roman revealed. He slackened off the pace on the ascent to the top of Stelvio with 6km to go. “The pace set by   the chasing group wasn’t very high but towards the end I was beginning to feel that my tank was getting empty. It is a pity because I had really good legs today. I guess that the penultimate stage of the Giro was really tough for everyone,” he added. Then he made another comment about  his remarkable triumph that he achieved on Friday. “I didn’t even have time to take it in. We had to make a transfer, taking the secondary roads and I didn’t arrive in the hotel until before 10pm. I went for dinner, had a massage and I got to bed at 0.15am. We touched glasses at dinner to celebrate my win and that was it. I had to get up at 7am to get ready for the stage that started early.”20th stage: Val di Sole-Passo dello Stelvio (218 km): 1.
