They crashed right in front of me

“I had a narrow escape. There were two crashes, the first one at the front and the other at the back as the riders were coming in from behind and were forced to hit the brakes. It happened right in front of me so I had to make my way through, throwing someone´s bike away. Luckily, everything came out well and nobody from our team got injured. I just stopped for a short and then softly pedaled to the finish. I knew that it had occurred inside the protective zone so I was credited with the same as the winner.” Roman revealed.Everyone was taken aback by Rodriguez´s daring attack towards the end. “He was probably feeling good and wanted to take everybody by surprise to pull on the pink jersey. As a result, his attack caused panic in the pack but I guess it was a waste of energy in today´s stage. It is not today that you win the Giro. He is very well-known for his attacks in the finale and he felt very confident,”said the Astana leader about  Rodriguez who was eventually brought back. “Then we hit the front to avoid any possible crash and tried to take over the lead,” added Roman who finished in 60th position.9th stage (San Giorgio del Sannio-Frosinone, 171 km): 1.
