Back from camp – now off to Spain

“We put in 12 great training days. My teammates Zaugg, Roche, Tossato and my friend from the Astana, Gasparotto, kept me company there. We had a great training crew there. Even our coach came to see us for a couple of days and we underwent a little field performance test under his guidance. It was all happening in a very friendly atmosphere. I was there with my wife and my parents visited for four days, so everything was fine,” Roman described. He returned home on Thursday night and after two easy days he got back to interval riding on Sunday. In the evening, as a guest of honor, he was invited with his wife to attend the Mattoni Grand Drink 2013 event, which featured the World Championships in mixing non-alcoholic cocktails. He made an appearance together with another athlete Petr Koukal who is the Czech badminton star. This morning he went out riding on his time trial bike and in the afternoon he is set to attend a press conference that will be held at the Prague Saxo Bank branch. Roman is travelling to Spain on Wednesday as he has been selected as the obvious team captain by the Saxo-Tinkoff  management. “The results of the first performance test have shown that I am on good form so that may be the reason why the team made that statement. In any case, we are bringing along more GC riders. Roche has been readying himself for the Vuelta for the whole season and he is really in great shape so he should assume the leadership role. Then, Majka and Chris Anker Sörensen may surprise as well. The very first racing day features a team time trial, in which we have to deliver the best possible result. Then two hilly stages follow and there we will see how good legs everybody has,” Roman admitted. Despite the fact that he has been so busy bike riding, he found some time to watch the last stage of the Eneco Tour on Sunday. “Congrats to Štyby on the fantastic result,” he praised his friend.
