Good Championship. Hoping for me and Štybar to ride the Olympics

“I regret not being able to reach the podium but other than that I have a good feeling about the race. I was active in pulling at the front and I think that together with other boys from ProTour teams we made a good race. I´d agreed on mutual with the riders of Quick Step and Sagan. After 100km of racing it was clear that some riders were beginning to fade and with 80km to go we put the hammer down. We were taking turns at the front to shake off as many riders as possible. We were riding like this for two laps and as a result, some 30 riders remained in our group. Then it was easier to race,” Roman described. The decisive breakaway came with some 30km to go as Raboň, Kadlec and Polnicky rode away and kept their slight advantage until the finish. It was eventually Kadlec who prevailed in the sprint and grabbed the victory. “At one point their gap increased up to 2 minutes so I thought we would never catch them. In the end, it was very close but they stayed ahead. I´m only sorry that Raboň didn’t take the win,” Roman regretted. As for the Olympics, he is hoping that the federation will employ common sense in selection of the riders. Apart from Roman, Štybar, Bárta and Novák are other candidates for only two Olympic spots. “I guess it was quite obvious in the race who was willing to cooperate and who wasn’t. I believe that the committee will be reasonable and they will choose me and Štyby (Zdeněk Štybar) for the Olympic road race. I think I´ve earned the place as I´m currently sitting in 10th position in the UCI rankings. I´d prefer to go to London with Štyby. Despite his little experience with road cycling, he always has a very good grasp of the race situation and we could definitely help each other out. The cooperation with Bárta is impossible.”
