Hard work around the volcano

“We are staying under the Teide volcano and for me it is no new experience as I´ve been here twice with Liquigas before. In January I chose to go to Etna but the training conditions are much better here. Not only is the weather more favorable but also we can practice on a high plain at the altitude between 1900-2300m, which is not possible on Etna where once you reach the top then you can only go downhill,” Roman reported from the sunny Canary Island of Tenerife.“I have never experienced such beautiful weather here. The temperature is hovering from around 10 to 14 degrees at 10 am and in the afternoon it can reach as much as 18 degrees. Also, we are  at really high altitudes so the temperature down below must be close to 30 degrees,” he revealed. What do the workouts look like? ”We are focusing on the intensity and I get to ride my time trial bike two to three times a week. I hope to be able to make the best of the practice rides in races. I´m planning to do some hard workouts on the weekend and on Monday I am just going to spin my legs for two or three hours. The two following days are going to be more intensive and I have scheduled a long ride for Thursday,” described the Astana´s rider who will be staying on Tenerife until next Friday.“I have been here only with Gasparotti and a Spanish masseur until Masciarelli arrived today. Another four teammates are joining us on Tuesday. It is great that we can concentrate only on practicing and nothing is distracting us. Apart from a few tourists in the hotel nobody is around.  I must say that time passes pretty quickly. We hit the roads at around half past ten am, after return we take a massage and do some stretching, after that we go for dinner and we are in bed by 11pm. Pretty tough schedule for one day!
